Childhood Ambition
Apr. 30th, 2006 10:43 amContrary to what many a non-Centauri supposes, all Centauri boys do not dream of becoming Emperor one day, yes? For one thing, our death dreams do not present themselves earlier than adolescence. I certainly did not. As the heir to House Mollari, my father brought me along to a number of court functions, one duller than the next, and I could see that the Emperor, poor beleagered man that he was, had to attend constantly. This did not appeal to me at all, hm?
What I did dream about as a boy was to be a hero, like the heroes in the stories of old. I saw myself dashing through the galaxy, saving maidens, defeating villains and above all fighting for the glory of Centauri Prime. My friend Urza and myself used to play out the battles with the Xon on a regular basis, and I was always depressed when he cast me as the villain. In fact, the thought occurs that my childhood ambition was to be someone like young Marcus Cole, whom I constantly expect to burst into an aria, for he truly does resemble the heroes of our operas which are all based on the legends I loved as a boy.
What a depressing thought.
